At week 11 your baby's head makes up about half of their length, and they're starting to look more like a baby.
Your baby this week
- Bones hardening
- The skeleton is slowly turning from soft cartilage to bone.
- Hands
- Fingers have separated, and hands can open and close.
- Development inside
- The genitals are starting to develop, though it's too early to see on a scan.
What you might notice
- Nausea easing for some people, while others still feel it strongly.
- More appetite if sickness lifts. Small, regular meals help steady energy.
- Heartburn and constipation, both common through pregnancy.
- Mild headaches and feeling lightheaded if you stand up quickly.
Call your midwife, doctor or early pregnancy unit today if
- You have bleeding, or cramping pain low in your belly
- You have sharp pain on one side, pain in the tip of your shoulder, or you feel faint
- You're being sick so often you can't keep fluids down
- You have a fever, or it burns or stings when you pee
If the pain is severe or you feel faint, call emergency services.
Coming up
Your dating scan, and combined screening if you've chosen it.
Many people share their news around now. When you tell people is entirely yours to decide.
Questions to bring to your next appointment
- What will the dating scan check?
- If a screening result comes back higher chance, what happens next?
- Is there anything about my work that I should change now?
For your partner
Talk about who you'll tell, and when. There's no right time; agreeing on it together is what matters.
