From week 10, your baby is called a fetus rather than an embryo. The basic body plan is in place, and now it's mostly about growing.
Your baby this week
- Organs at work
- The kidneys, liver and brain are formed and starting to do their jobs.
- Bones
- Bones and cartilage are forming, and tiny knees and elbows can bend.
- Nails
- Fingernails and toenails are beginning to grow.
What you might notice
- A rounder lower belly, though most of it is still bloating.
- Round ligament twinges, brief pulls low on one side as your uterus grows.
- Thicker, shinier hair for some, or more spots for others.
- Ongoing sickness and tiredness, though some people start to feel better around now.
Call your midwife, doctor or early pregnancy unit today if
- You have bleeding, or cramping pain low in your belly
- You have sharp pain on one side, pain in the tip of your shoulder, or you feel faint
- You're being sick so often you can't keep fluids down
- You have a fever, or it burns or stings when you pee
If the pain is severe or you feel faint, call emergency services.
Coming up
Your dating scan. Your due date may be adjusted to match your baby's size. Try the due date calculator with the new date.
Some screening blood tests can be done from now if you choose them.
Questions to bring to your next appointment
- If my due date changes at the scan, which date will you use?
- When will I get screening results, and how?
- Can my partner or someone else come to the scan?
For your partner
Ask if you can come to the dating scan. Seeing the screen together is something many couples remember for a long time.
NUGA follows you week by week
